Useful for: assessing the status of antioxidant defenses and/or the effectiveness of specific antioxidant treatments.
What it assesses: measures the chemically active antioxidant capacity (scavengers) of the plasma barrier. Specifically, it includes antioxidants both exogenous in nature (ascorbic acid and tocopherols) and endogenous in nature (uric acid, bilirubin, and albumin).
Matrix: fresh or frozen heparinated serum or plasma
